Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y
Roux-en-Y is the most common type of Gastric Bypass Surgery. In this procedure, the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch and then constructs a "bypass" for food. The bypass allows food to skip parts of the small intestine. By skipping a large part of the small intestine, the body cannot absorb as many calories or nutrients. In addition to rapid weight loss, an overall improvement in the quality of life for patients, a resolution or improvement in accompanying health conditions, social and economic opportunities and a reduced desire to eat are all advantages to this procedure.
Lap-Band® Procedure
North Cypress Medical Center also offers the Lap Band® procedure. The LAP-BAND® System is an adjustable gastric band designed to help you lose excess body weight, improve weight –related health conditions, and enhance quality of life. It reduces the stomach capacity and restricts the amount of food that can be consumed at one time. The LAP-BAND® System procedure does not require stomach cutting and stapling or gastrointestinal re-routing to bypass normal digestion. The LAP-BAND® System is the only adjustable and reversible weight-loss surgery available in the United States and the only weight-loss surgery approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Informational Seminars – Is Bariatric Surgery the choice for me?
North Cypress Medical Center offers weight loss surgery seminars several times a month. During the seminars, one of our Bariatric surgeons will explain our surgical weight loss procedures, their benefits and outcomes. The physician, along with our Bariatric Educator will discuss the mental and emotional changes necessary to ensure successful weight loss following surgery. Interested attendees are encouraged to ask questions to help determine if weight loss surgery is right for you.
