Stroke Center

North Cypress Medical Center's Stroke Center is dedicated to treating stroke victims in the Houston area.   At North Cypress we understand that when you or a loved one has suffered a stroke, there is not a moment to spare and minutes matter!  Timely intervention at a state-of-the-art facility such as the North Cypress Stroke Center can make all the difference. At our Stroke Center, neurologists and neurosurgery specialists work with our emergency room doctors to quickly diagnose and treat patients who come in with stroke symptoms. Our specialists use the latest medical therapies including thrombolysis – clot-busting medications - to treat stroke patients. Our 20-bed fully staffed Intensive Care Unit is also trained to provide critical care following the initial treatment of life threatening illnesses such as stroke. All of these emergency stroke treatments are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at our Main Campus Emergency Room. The North Cypress Medical Center's Stroke Center has been accredited by the Joint Commission, and designated a Primary Stroke Center. This means we have been recognized for excellence in treatment protocols and patient care.     The Stroke Center was also recognized by the American Heart / American Stroke Association with a Get with the Guidelines and  Gold Plus - Target: Stroke Elite Achievement Award.   Hospitals must achieve 85% or higher adherence to all  Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods and achieve 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight established quality measures to receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. To qualify for the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster drug, or TPA .  If given intravenously in the first 3 hours after the start of stroke symptoms, TPA has been shown to significantly reduce the effects of stroke and lessen the chance of permanent disability.   North Cypress Medical Center earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. Women's Choice Awards also recognized the  North Cypress Stroke Center as one of America's Best Stroke Centers.   Hospitals that have earned this award must first hold an Advanced or Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification, recognizing centers that meet high standards for stroke care as determined by the Joint Commission.   North Cypress Stroke Center is part of our commitment to "5-Star Care" and to serving the medical needs of Houston and the surrounding communities.
